This program will provide a survey of how states have responded to the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Wayfair, which dispensed with the physical presence requirements that have historically been required in order to impose a sales tax collection and remittance obligation. The possible implications of the decision in areas beyond sales tax will also be discussed. The panelists will draw on their experience in the state tax area to discuss the many possible implications to businesses that have sales into states where they have no physical presence. Bob Carleo is a managing director in the Multistate Tax practice of Deloitte Tax LLP. Inna Volfson is a senior manager in Washington National Tax practice of Deloitte Tax LLP. Ian Gilbert is a senior manager in the Multistate Tax practice of Deloitte Tax LLP. Olga Goldberg is counsel at Pierce Atwood LLP where her practice focuses oncomplex state and local tax matters, including transaction planning and tax compliance.
